Great stories don't always follow conventional paths. Neither do the people who write them.

Milpa Press is an independent publishing house committed to bringing distinctive voices, original ideas and meaningful stories to readers around the world.

Due to popular demand, we are opening for manuscript submissions for a limited period.

Submissions open 1 February 2027 and close 28 February 2027.

We welcome emerging and established authors who have something compelling to share.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in thoughtful, original manuscripts with a clear purpose, a distinctive voice and the potential to connect with readers.

Our interests include:

  • Nonfiction: Personal development, spirituality, wellbeing, memoir, contemporary ideas and books that challenge conventional thinking.

  • Fiction: Original, engaging storytelling with strong characters, compelling themes and a distinctive perspective.

  • Children's Books: Imaginative, meaningful and entertaining stories for young readers.

  • Special Projects: Illustrated works, oracle decks and other creative publishing concepts that align with the Milpa philosophy.

We value originality, authenticity and quality over trends.

We are not looking for manuscripts written simply to follow a commercial formula.

What to Submit

To help us assess your work, please prepare:

  1. A short introduction outlining who you are and why you've written the book.

  2. A synopsis of no more than 500 words describing the manuscript, its intended audience and central themes.

  3. Your manuscript: A completed manuscript in Word or PDF format. For illustrated works, a complete story manuscript and any available sample illustrations. We are only accepting completed manuscripts and not unfinished works or book ideas at this time.

  4. An author biography: A brief overview of your background, relevant experience and any previous publications.

  5. Your vision: A short explanation of who you believe your readers are and what you hope the book will achieve.

You do not need an established author platform or previous publishing experience to be considered.

Our Publishing Approach

Milpa Press believes publishing should be a genuine collaboration between author and publisher.

We work with a select number of authors, providing editorial guidance, book design, production, distribution and opportunities for broader audience development.

Our approach is personal, considered and focused on the long-term potential of each work.

Authors retain ownership of their intellectual property, with publishing arrangements established through individual agreements.

The Assessment Process

Every submission will be considered for its originality, quality, audience potential and alignment with Milpa Press.

Due to the anticipated volume of submissions, we may not be able to provide individual editorial feedback.

Shortlisted authors may be contacted to discuss their manuscript, publishing objectives and potential next steps.

Submitting a manuscript does not guarantee publication.

Important Information

  • Submissions are accepted only between 1 and 28 February 2027.

  • We welcome submissions from authors internationally.

  • Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Please advise us if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere.

  • Please submit only work you own or have the necessary rights to publish.

  • Submission does not create a publishing agreement or any obligation on either party.

  • There is no fee to submit a manuscript.
